Battle for Donetsk
Battle for Donetsk is a war game with an anti-war message. It’s a confronting “topical game”, developed by the independent game studio LuGus Studios. With this game LuGus Studios does not wish to take a political stance and does not condone violence and conflict. On the contrary, our aim is to raise awareness of the conflict in Ukraine. Its sobering character should provide some food for thought.
A new Cold War?
It is soothing to think that a war could ever be cold, but while world leaders, countries and continents maneuver around, civilians in eastern Ukraine face a war that is anything but cold. The continuing conflict has driven a million refugees out of their homes and has claimed over 6000 lives at a conservative estimate.
The lives of these people are now in your hands. Can you win?

A game about a conflict in Ukraine?
As game developers in a peaceful western European country, the war in Ukraine mostly reaches us in the form of higher gas prices and fruit that have lost their main export market. Maybe, for a change, we could look at things from a slightly broader perspective.
A “Topical” game?
Music artists sing meaningful songs, painters create expressive images, and novelists write moving stories. Surely, games can be about something too?
I played the game and I don’t get it
Thanks for playing! Did you fail to win the game? Is there even a way to win? Let’s find out together.
